The Avenue Building Corporation has recently began using two Raimondi LR273 luffing jib cranes for the construction of The United Bldg, an iconic historical redevelopment project situated in Toronto. This 55-storey condominium, meticulously conserving elements from its original 1928 structure and the 1961 expansion, stands as a testament to architectural history and heritage.
“Avenue Building Corporation is adding another significant project milestone to our site portfolio by renting these two Raimondi LR273 luffing jib cranes to EllisDon, contractor of the project and international leader in construction services,” stated Jim Patullo, president, Avenue Building Corporation.
Installed between December 2023 and January 2024, these two cranes, each weighing 18 tons, stand tall at heights of 60 and 54 meters, with respective jib lengths of 45 and 50 meters, and a notable tip load of 4.50 tons. Their robust 86kW hoisting gear enables them to lift materials at a rapid speed of 204 meters per minute, boasting a drum capacity of 980 meters.
With a close eye on safety and efficiency, the positioning of these cranes was strategically planned to optimize site utilization, which was especially crucial given that 75% of the job site was already occupied due to the preservation of the existing facade and structural steel retention systems. Their compact out-of-service radius, ranging between 16 and 17 meters, along with their ease of installation due to weight optimization, were key factors in their selection.
The LR273's wide swing angles not only facilitate extensive site coverage but also contribute to their superior lifting capacities, further enhancing their suitability for this specific project.
“Witnessing the participation of our models on such a prestigious jobsite highlights the reliability and high performance of our luffing range, reaffirming Raimondi’s commitment to delivering excellence in every product we manufacture. Raimondi technology not only enhances productivity, but it also ensures precision in even the most challenging environments,” stated Luigi Maggioni, Raimondi Group, CEO.
Anticipated to remain on-site for an extended period, the cranes will undergo internal climbing to reach final heights of 65 and 195 meters, showcasing their adaptability to varying project requirements.
