April 2016 – Father-and-son window washers were in a personnel basket being raised approximately five stories to begin their work when the crane the basket was attached to tipped over, dropping the son to the ground. The father was killed when the crane’s boom and basket crashed to the ground, crushing him. One witness said three of the crane’s outriggers were positioned on the asphalt road, and the fourth on soil, and that the crane pitched as the outrigger sank into the soil. The injured worker was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, while firefighters worked with two other cranes to lift the toppled machine so they could retrieve the dead man’s body. Three other people who witnessed the accident were treated at a local hospital for shock. The Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail is investigating the deadly accident. – montrealgazette.com
