The Crosby ELIMINATOR is suited for applications that require an adjustable length chain sling.
October 19, 2005 The Crosby Group, Tulsa, Okla., introduced the Crosby ELIMINATOR™ at ICUEE, which is a Grade 100 alloy steel chain sling fitting designed for overhead lifting. The Crosby ELMINATOR combines selected features and functionality of a master link, connecting link, grab hook, and adjuster legs to provide one fitting that is suitable for applications that require an adjustable length chain sling.

The chain sling also can be used with Grade 80 alloy steel chain fittings, but the sling must be rated at Grade 80 working load limits.

The ELIMINATOR was designed with Crosby's Pro ENGINEER® software to model and perform stress analysis of anticipated loading conditions. The ELIMINATOR features built-in chain shorteners, eliminating the need for additional legs of chain and components and reducing the complexity of the sling. By eliminating additional chains and components, the weight of the ELIMINATOR has been reduced by up to 15% when compared to traditional chain slings. For example, a traditional 3/8”x10” AQOS four leg sling with chain shortener weighs 25.6 pounds without the chain, while the Crosby ELIMINATOR quad leg sling with master link and sling hooks 3/8”x10” weighs 22 pounds.

Fewer components allows for less crowding of the master link, making it easier to inspect all surfaces of the components and the sling for signs of wear. The ELIMINATOR also features the patented QUIC-CHECK® deformation indicators, which are two strategically placed marks — one on each side of the bail — that allows for easy measurement of the bail dimensions, indicating abuse or overload. To check, measure the distance between the marks with a tape measure, noting that the marks should align to either an inch or half-inch increment on the measuring device. If the measurement does not meet this criteria, the Crosby ELMINIATOR should be inspected further for possible damage.

Crosby ELIMINATOR fittings, as well as all other Crosby Grade 8/10™ chain fittings are fatigue rated at 1-1/2 times the working load limit at 20,000 cycles. Additionally, all Crosby fittings contain a Product Identification Code (PIC) to maintain material control from the steel mill, to receipts at the plant, to verification, and throughout the manufacturing process.
