Tadano Ltd., a company in the lifting industry, plans to acquire the transportation system business of IHI Transport Machinery Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of IHI Corporation based in Tokyo.
This acquisition marks an important milestone in Tadano’s strategy to diversify its product offerings and enhance customer value by broadening its range of lifting solutions. The addition aligns with Tadano’s Mid-Term Management Plan to introduce innovative solutions and expand into new markets.
The acquisition will bring over five decades of engineering and manufacturing expertise from IHI Transport Machinery’s transportation systems division, which includes Jib Climbing Cranes, Port and Offshore Cranes, Wind Power Cranes and Bulk Handling Systems.
This addition complements Tadano’s existing lifting capabilities and offers synergy with its German-based crawler crane business, particularly in offshore and renewable energy sectors.
“We are excited to further enact our Mid-Term Management Plan through this acquisition," Toshiaki Ujiie, president, CEO and representative director of Tadano Ltd., said.
"Tadano remains focused on the global lifting market and offers over a century of industry experience. However, Tower and Port Cranes are new products for our group, and they give Tadano the ability to develop deeper relationships with our customers and better serve their lifting needs.”
“Additionally, the Ring Lift Cranes offers many synergies with our Lattice Boom Crawler Cranes manufactured by Tadano in Germany, and we anticipate these cranes will supplement our offshore wind power equipment needs," Ujiie said.
Tadano will oversee all aspects of the new business, including planning, development, manufacturing, sales, installation and ongoing support. The integration of IHI’s transportation systems aims to boost Tadano’s position across multiple sectors from industrial construction and port operations to renewable wind power and bulk handling.
“This acquisition represents a strong commitment to customers and stakeholders,” Ujiie added.
“The combination of their transportation system business with Tadano’s existing resources is expected to deliver even greater value and strengthen leadership in the crane industry.”
