July 12, 2004 - Sunbelt Rentals, Charlotte, N.C., has appointed Cliff Miller as president and chief executive officer, which is effective immediately. Miller also will join the board of directors for the U.K.-based Ashtead Group, Sunbelt's parent company. He is replacing George Burnett, group executive officer, who has been the acting CEO in the United States.
Miller's rental company career began in 1982 with McLean Rentals. He joined Sunbelt after the McLean acquisition in 1996. From 1997 to 2003, Miller was the vice president responsible for Sunbelt's Northeastern region. Since August 2003, Miller has served as one of two executive vice presidents of operations, where he was in charge of nearly half of Sunbelt's front-line operations.
Brendan Horgan, Sunbelt's other executive vice president of operations, has been promoted to chief operating officer. Before his promotion last August, he was the vice president responsible for Sunbelt's Southeastern region.
