Sterling Lumber C-Channel Outrigger Mat

January 18, 2013Sterling Lumber, Blue Island, Ill., offers the C-Channel outrigger mats, which are completely boxed in with welded C-Channel steel and bolted together with 1-1/4-inch diameter timber bolts. Sizes are built to customer specifications, and the C-Channel outrigger mats are designed to outlast and outperform standard timber mats.

The addition of C-Channel provides strength and longevity, maximizes the usable square footage of a mat, and increases jobsite safety. Crane operators can achieve precise placement and enjoy optimum equipment performance without fear of shifting or tipping or sacrificing space on the job.

“At our site, we encounter various ground conditions: loose soil, underground utility vaults and water undercutting concrete, to name a few,” explained a crane operator in California. “After we acquired our new 150-ton crane, we knew we had to address the outrigger load-bearing pressure more carefully, as it was larger and heavier than anything we had in our previous fleet. After looking around at different solutions, we all agreed that the C-Channel mat would be the strongest and most durable.” He added the mat, which features 1-1/4-in. bolts, 8-in. thick timbers, 1/2-in. steel plate, and the C-Channel, is easy to set up with the D-rings.
