Skyjack Confirms Re-Entry in Boom Lift Business

October 14, 2005 — Skyjack, Inc. has finally confirmed one of the worst-kept secrets in the access industry: The Guelph, Ontario-based scissor lift manufacturer will be re-entering the boom lift business.

After a lengthy product development phase, Skyjack will soon introduce at least two straight boom lifts — 40/45-foot with a jib — at The Rental Show in February, confirmed Dave Stewart, vice president of sales and marketing. Following shortly after the release of these machines will be the introduction of 60/65-foot straight booms, with a full range of straight and articulating boom lifts planned for future release.

Although Skyjack has taken this road before, Stewart said these units will "probably not have a whole lot of similarities" with previously built Skyjack boom lifts. "Some componentry will be the same, but it's basically a brand new boom design," he said.

One might ask why Skyjack has decided to go back to building boom lifts? "Well, there are a number of reasons," Stewart said, but ultimately, "it just makes sense."
