Scaffold Industry Association Seeks International Members

July 1, 2005 The Scaffold Industry Association (SIA) recently announced the creation of a new international membership category due to the substantial number of members located outside the United States coupled with increasing interest from firms in Europe and Asia. A manufacturer, seller, or renter of high-reach equipment can join as a regular member starting at $550 (U.S.) per year while a supplier, allied, or affiliate company, can join as an associate member starting at $225 (U.S.) per year.

“The association currently is experiencing rapid growth opportunities and recognizes the need to create a membership category that addresses the needs of members worldwide,” said Linda Tweten, SIA's executive vice president. “The SIA is the leading organization for the creation and distribution of training and educational products for the high reach industry, and further expansion allows us to meet the needs of our industry.”

The association's board of directors indicated that it envisions a time when international members in close proximity to each other will organize into chapters and regions. Such activities would facilitate groups meeting independently to address access issues within their own geographic location. In fact, they anticipate that members in Europe and Asia could soon be following the example their Canadian counterparts, who established independent SIA working chapters back in the 1980s.
