October 6, 2004—Soon-to-be-introduced, the Z-135/70 from Genie Industries, Redmond, Wash., is the latest addition to the mega boom market, which currently includes products from only two manufacturers. Although still in prototype stage, preliminary specs call for the Z-135/70 articulating boom lift to offer a maximum platform height of 135 feet, nearly 70 feet of horizontal outreach, and up to 75 feet of up-and-over clearance.

Genie's Z-135/70 shares many features with its S-125 family of straight boom lifts, including full traction four-wheel drive, four-wheel steer system and the ALC 1000 control system. But it also boasts new and exclusive designs. Patent is pending on its X-Chassis™ configuration, which according to the company, “revolutionizes the mechanism for extending and retracting the axles to and from the stowed position.” Each axle pivots from a vertical mounting pin to simplify machine set-up.

In addition, a new Jib-Extend™ jib extends from a stowed length of 12 feet to 20 feet, providing access to up-over-and-in applications inaccessible by a traditional jib.

Other features include 600-pound capacity platform, outside turning radius with axles extended of 20'10”, 360° continuous turntable rotation, and 160° platform rotation. Engine choices include 78 hp Deutz BF4L2011, 80 hp Cummins 4B4.6L, or 86 hp Perkins 1104C-44.

Deliveries are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2005. Look for a more detailed report in the first issue of Lift and Access magazine to be published in November.
