OSHA Extends Public Comment on Crane Operator Certification Rule

OSHA is extending the public comment period for its proposed rule on crane operator certification through July 5, 2018.

The 15-day extension gives stakeholders more time to review the proposed rule.

Several industry groups, including AGC of America, Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA), NationsBuilders Insurance Services (NBIS), the Coalition for Crane Operator Safety (CCOS), Edison Electric Institute, and the American Petroleum Institute (API) had requested or were in the process of requesting an extension.

Some are concerned about the implications of the employer evaluation portion of the proposed rule, a new section OSHA developed to address industry concerns that certification, though valuable, is by itself insufficient to ensure an operator is qualified.

Comments may be submitted electronically until end of day on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at http://www.regulations.gov to Docket No. OSHA-2007-0066.
