June 1, 2005 — Morrow Equipment, a leading tower crane rental company in North America headquartered in Salem, Ore., recently ordered 20 new Scando 650 construction hoists from Alimak. According to Christian Chalupny, president of Morrow Equipment, the company researched the hoist market two years ago trying to decide on a replacement for its aging Tornberg (Pecco) hoist rental fleet.

“We came to the decision to go with Alimak hoists for various reasons,” he said. “We wanted to represent the markets' leading brands, like Liebherr for tower cranes and Alimak for hoists, to go with our quality image. We liked the counterweight-less hoists with frequency converter, very little downtime, economical erection and jumping costs. Our customer feedback has been excellent with all our Alimak hoists fully utilized."

One of the features of interest on the Scando 650 is the flexibility with the new hoist car, which is extendible with the choice of different car doors and car door locations. The new highly efficient gearbox, which decreases the power consumption up to 40% compared to other products on the market, was another feature that was well received. There are no counterweights with these units, which translates into faster and easier installation. With a 7,100-pound capacity per car, the 650 works at speeds of up to 175 feet per minute.

“We have worked very hard with the Alimak product over the past five years in North America and enjoyed great success with the complete line,” said Tony Dragone, Alimak Hek's national sales manager for construction products in the United States. “It's a tribute to Alimak for their dedication to the industry that they introduce this new line, which incorporates the features and benefits that the American market has requested.”
