MICO Object Detection and Brake Interlock System Prevents Collisions

The Object Detection and Brake Interlock System works with MICO's 691 Brake Lock and Preco Electronics' PreView radar system to detect objects behind vehicles.

December 7, 2005 — MICO, Inc., North Mankato, Minn., introduces the Object Detection and Brake Interlock System at ICUEE. The system is used in conjunction with the MICO 691 Brake Lock and the PreView™ radar object detection system from Preco Electronics to automatically intervene on the operator's behalf, rather than simply providing a warning. When a vehicle is in reverse, the PreView radar object detection system detects stationary and moving objects within the radar detection zone that are obscured with the operator's view and automatically applies the brakes at a predetermined distance.

An onboard display module provides both visible and audible indication to the operator when an object is identified by the radar at distances up to 26 feet. A series of five lights illuminate on the display module as the alarm tone and tempo vary to alert the operator of the closing proximity to the object. The system automatically applies the 691 Brake Lock at a predetermined distance to prevent a collision with the object. For situations that require maneuvering a vehicle closer to the detected object, a manual release button will allow the operator to momentarily unlock the brakes.

Current owners of the 691 Brake Lock can have the PreView radar installed in order to receive the new complete system. For specific applications, the system can be augmented to lock up particular group of wheels rather than all four. The PreView radar system is programmable and can be set for different detection distances and patterns.
