Manitowoc introduces two new luffing jib crane models, the MR 309 and MR 329, offering maximum capacities of 16 t or 25 t respectively. Both cranes boast a 60 m jib and a 3.4 t capacity at the tip. However, they feature distinct load curves and heights under pivot due to their respective 2 m and 2.45 m pivot and mast configurations.
These new models are a direct response to customer feedback, aiming for simplified and expedited assembly, increased height under pivot, enhanced load charts and a reduced out-of-service radius (minimum 9.5 m up to 12 m). Equipped with the latest Potain Crane Control System (CCS) for easy setup and control, as well as Potain CONNECT telematics for optimized fleet management and uptime.
The MR 309 and MR 329 join the MR 229, introduced at bauma 2022, in completing Manitowoc's latest generation of Potain luffing jib cranes.
Responding to customer demands for quicker assembly, the new cranes feature horizontal jib mounting, reduced windvane spans for easier installation on compact job sites, and accessible platforms and steps for efficient worker movement. Additionally, the counterjib ballast is installed at working height, facilitated by slinging rings and a self-centering system. A redesigned luffing mechanism streamlines assembly, while an integrated jib-end basket enhances installation, inspection and maintenance processes. The Potain CCS further reduces commissioning time, enabling the cranes to commence operations promptly.
“We've received excellent feedback since the debut of the MR 229, particularly for its ease of erection, minimized out-of-service radius, and the integration of CCS. Customers have praised the seamless operation of the crane from the Ultraview CCS cab. With these achievements in mind, we have high expectations for the MR 309 and MR 329 as they round out this innovative new generation of Potain luffing jib cranes,” said Thibaut Le Besnerais, vice president of marketing and development at Manitowoc.
Addressing the need for greater height under pivot and more powerful load charts, the MR 309 and MR 329 deliver impressive performance. Despite their shared jib length and tip capacity, their unique configurations result in differing heights under pivot and load capabilities.
The MR 309 achieves a height under pivot of 49.2 m and a maximum capacity of 4.3 t at 55 m, while the MR 329 reaches a height under pivot of 55.2 m, with a maximum capacity of 4.7 t at 55 m. Additionally, these cranes offer a significantly reduced out-of-service radius (9.5 m to 12 m) and decreased anchorage frame requirements, enhancing efficiency and productivity on construction sites, particularly those with height or space constraints.
