The Lane Construction Corporation has deployed two Link-Belt 250-ton TCC-2500 telescopic crawler cranes for a major bridge project over the Wateree River in Kershaw County, South Carolina. This project, commissioned by the South Carolina Department of Transportation, involves replacing two outdated overpasses on Interstate 20 and upgrading additional nearby bridges.
Lane, which secured the contract for this extensive project, is not only building new bridges but also demolishing the existing 1970s structures and conducting roadwork to integrate the new spans into the highway. To tackle the challenging worksite, Lane rented the TCC-2500s from Lomma Crane & Rigging in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania.
Initially, a traditional lattice boom crane was used, but project director Eric Pruemer quickly identified it as unsuitable for the cramped site. The TCC-2500s' superior maneuverability proved essential, allowing efficient operation within the confined space.
“These allow us to easily go underneath the bridge back and forth to facilitate work on both the outside and the median of this bridge,” Pruemer said of the TCC-2500s. “The cranes are very sleek, and they work very well.”
The TCC-2500s have been instrumental in driving piles for temporary trestles and conducting foundation work while keeping the river navigable and traffic flowing. Lane plans to use these cranes for six to eight months, ensuring the new bridges will enhance roadway safety and benefit the local community.
