June 1, 2005 Liebherr Construction Equipment Co., Newport News, Va., announced it has opened a new service facility in Houston. Featuring more than 36,000 square feet of warehouse and work space and 12,000 square feet of office space, the service facility's capabilities include all mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic repair work on cranes and other heavy equipment. One recent example of services provided at Liebherr's new facility included repairing hydraulic-driven machines to meet government repair and maintenance standards.

In addition to servicing machines, Liebherr also will rebuild heavy machinery and cranes from any manufacturer at the facility. “Right now, we are completely rebuilding a crane by totally disassembling it and testing it for resale,” said Ralf Vieten, executive vice president of service for Liebherr Crane.

In addition to service and maintenance, Liebherr will also rebuild machines at the facility.
But equipment serviced at the facility isn't limited to cranes and large equipment. “If it is a wheelbarrow with the name Liebherr on it, we will fix it or rebuild it,” he said. In principle, Vieten said, most of the rebuilding work is done on trade-in machines and as a service for customers' existing equipment.

According to Vieten, all equipment built or repaired in the service facility has to meet Liebherr factory standards, is warranted on the work and parts, and the equipment is certified to meet industry standards.
