's SkyPower generator and SkyWelder welding system feature recent enhancements.

September 8, 2005 — Two of the Workstation in the Sky® products from JLG Industries Inc., McConnellsburg, PA., now offer enhancements and performance improvements. Now belt-driven, the 7,500-watt (10,500-watt peak) SkyPower generator is a standard feature on the Models 600S, 600SC, 800S, 800A, and Ultra Boom series of boom lifts, featuring platform heights from 60 feet to 135 feet. The SkyPower package is an option on all other combustion-powered JLG boom lifts. The company also upgraded its optional SkyWelder welding system to reflect changes in Miller Electric Company's specifications for its Miller Model CST™ 280-amp welder.

"Using the machine's engine is the most effective method of powering a generator,” said Jeff Ford, JLG product champion. “Hydraulic power alternatives are not as efficient and require the engine to operate at higher rpm, since energy is lost when hydraulics are used to drive the pump that operates the generator. Plus, there is a greater possibility of hydraulic leaks when more fittings are added, and there's a chance that hydraulic fluid can become overheated."

Explaining that electric tools such as saws, drills, grinders, and other 110-volt handheld equipment are designed to operate from standard wall sockets, Ford maintains that the 7,500-watt SkyPower generator supplies more power than a standard wall socket, enabling workers to run multiple tools simultaneously using the SkyPower generator.

Designed and tested by Miller, the welding system is ideal for stick electrodes up to 3/16 inch. Stick welding is the most common type of fabrication welding and the best alternative for use in windy conditions and adverse environments. Miller Electric is the exclusive supplier of stick welding equipment for JLG aerial work platforms.
