JLG Awarded U.S. Army Servicing Contract

September 3, 2004 • JLG Industries, McConnellsburg, Pa., announced it has been awarded a three-year, $21 million contract with the U.S. Army to recondition an estimated 350 all-terrain lifter army system vehicles (ATLAS) and 350 pre-existing models once they return from Southwest Asia. The initial phase of the contract includes a $1.1 million delivery order, which will be performed at JLG's military rebuild facility in McConnellsburg.

Atlas vehicle
The ATLAS vehicle is a 10,000-pound capacity, rough-terrain forklift. This forklift has a top speed of 23 mph and cross-country mobility equal to 6,000-pound capacity, variable reach RT forklifts. The lift capacity is 4,000 pounds at 21.5 feet, 6,000 pounds at 13 feet, and 10,000 pounds at 4 feet.

In 2002, the U.S. Army contracted to purchase 50 ATLAS RT forklifts from OmniQuip, its originally manufacturer, in upwards of $6 million to replace all machines with national stock numbers (NSN) under SSN M488. OmniQuip since has been acquired by JLG Industries.

“Winning this contract broadens our portfolio in an important and growing customer segment," said David Peacock, director of military programs at JLG. “Supporting our customers with after-market service and managing the life cycle of our products are key components of our longer term plan that present an opportunity to grow revenues from non-new machine sales."
