JCB Recognized by OSHA with SHARP Award

September 1, 2005 — JCB recently earned membership in OSHA's Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP), making it one of five companies in Georgia to become SHARP certified for 2005. Upon receiving SHARP recognition, recipients' worksites are exempt from OSHA programmed inspections for one year.

 

According to John J. Deifer, OSHA area director in Savannah, Ga., JCB has demonstrated an exemplary safety and health management system at its Savannah facility and made it clear that the health and safety of its workers have been top priorities at every level.

 

SHARP was created by OSHA to provide incentives and support to those employers that implement and continuously improve effective safety and health management systems at their worksites. The program was designed to help reduce overall workplace injuries and illnesses by encouraging employers to correct safety hazards; to develop, implement and improve effective

safety and health programs; and to become more self-motivated and self-regulating in the management of occupational safety and health.

“When you have been in business for 60 years, you learn that the safety and health of your facilities and your workforce is of the utmost importance,” said Helmut Peters, president of JCB. “Without a proper safety and health management system in place, we would be jeopardizing our ability to deliver on our promise to our customers. That is why the OSHA SHARP recognition
