Lift Safety System

February 2, 2005—The Hirschmann Electronics Group, Germantown, Md., offers the Lift Safety System (LSS) for load moment limitation on aerial work platforms. The system detects hazardous platform situations and disables the platform whenever maximum loads or load moments are exceeded. It constantly compares the platform load to stored maximum permissible values • up to 16 equipment configurations and 64 maximum value curves can be stored.

The maximum values for the platform are calculated through calibration of a reference platform with maximum load at maximum reach. The LSS then automatically calculates and stores the maximum values. Since it requires no operating elements, the calibration process is supported by the PC software WinLSS. Following calibration, the PC is disconnected from the LSS, which then functions as a self-contained safety device.

LSS has a triple-stage monitoring circuit. The first relay triggers the preset early warning signal, and a second serves as an adjustable shutoff with further monitoring of platform movement. If the platform still moves to a critical position due to an error or malfunction, another redundant relay performs a total shutoff. Go to www.hirschmann.com for information.
