Hiab, a division of Cargotec, has secured a substantial order totaling EUR 5 million for loader cranes destined for use in offshore wind turbine installations. This order was logged in Cargotec's Q1 2024 order intake and is scheduled for delivery within the year.
The specific crane model in demand is the HIAB SWP, tailor-made to facilitate service operations for offshore wind turbines. Positioned within the nacelle, which houses the turbine's generating components, these cranes are adept at handling various lifting tasks. Whether lifting equipment from sea-level platforms or facilitating deliveries to the turbine's helicopter pad, these cranes are useful even in challenging environments.
"This order greatly acknowledges Hiab as a trusted global partner in the offshore wind sector. We are well-prepared and excited to support the customer in the years ahead," says Artur Jaslowski, global product manager, loader cranes light & medium, Hiab.
The offshore wind power industry is witnessing remarkable growth, driven by the escalating demand for renewable energy sources. According to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), global offshore wind capacity expanded by 8.8 GW in 2022, reaching a cumulative capacity of 64.3 GW. The GWEC projects an average annual addition of 26 GW worldwide until 2027, reflecting the sector's robust trajectory.
