Grove has unveiled two new rough-terrain cranes, the GRT765 and GRT780, promising best-in-class boom length and strength, along with innovative productivity features and design. Deliveries are scheduled for later this year.
Enhanced Performance and Design
The GRT765 and GRT780 cranes aim to redefine the 65 U.S. short tons (USt) and 80 USt classes. They boast improved operator comfort and easier servicing, all within a compact design. Deliveries are expected to begin in the second half of 2024.
“Customers will immediately notice the significant improvements in reach and strength, but we’ve also packed a lot of other benefits into these new models. The operators will love the comfort of our new, wider cab as well as the expanded CCS display. We’ve also added the latest productivity and fleet management technology with our MAXbase variable outrigger positioning system and the Grove CONNECT telematics platform. Not to mention we packed all of this into a very compact and lightweight package, which makes this crane very easy to transport, as well as maneuver around busy jobsites,” John Bair, product manager for rough-terrain cranes at Manitowoc, said
GRT765 and GRT780 Specifications
The GRT765, replacing the RT765E-2, features a 65 USt maximum capacity and a 126 ft four-section full power boom. The GRT780, replacing the RT770E and the GRT880, offers an 80 USt maximum capacity with a 155 ft five-section full-power boom. Both models include a 35-56 ft bi-fold swing away jib, manually offsettable up to 45 degrees.
Both models guarantee powerful line pull, offering 17,160 lbs on a single line for quick setup and operation. They are designed for easy transport, typically traveling as one load. The GRT765 has a GVW of approximately 94,000 lbs, while the GRT780 has a GVW of 99,500 lbs (102,500 lbs with heavy counterweight). Both models are just 9.8 ft wide, making them nearly a full foot narrower than typical cranes in these classes.
Advanced Features
The cranes are equipped with the MAXbase variable outrigger system, which provides increased lift capacity and asymmetric configurations for tight job sites. They also feature the Grove CONNECT telematics and fleet management system, introduced in 2022. Operators benefit from a 3-inch wider, full-vision cab that tilts to 20 degrees and a three-camera system for enhanced visibility. The new 12-inch touchscreen CCS display offers consistent controls and layout across the Manitowoc product line.
For service technicians, the cranes include the on Crane Service Interface (oCSI) for better diagnostics and maintenance. Centrally located service points on the superstructure and carrier simplify routine maintenance.
