Genie Lays Off 120 Employees in Redmond, Moses Lake

July 14, 2008 • According to a report in The Seattle Times, aerial lift and telehandler manufacturer Genie Industries eliminated most temporary positions and laid off 120 full-time workers at its Redmond and Moses Lake, Wash., facilities last week. The number of temporary jobs cut was not disclosed. The company continues to employ more 3,000 people at its Redmond and Moses Lake plants.

Melinda Zimmerman-Smith, marketing communications manager, was quoted as saying Genie's business is cyclical like the industries it serves. "It's an unstable market with increasing fuel and raw-material costs," she said last Thursday.
