DBI-SALA & PROTECTA To Purchase Unique Concepts LTD

January 11, 2006 — DBI-SALA & PROTECTA, Red Wing, Minn., will acquire Unique Concepts LTD, an international fall protection and confined space rescue equipment manufacturing company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. According to DBI-SALA CEO Pat Velasco, the deal will be completed by the end of the month. Combined, the two companies will have a broad international sales channel and more than 650 employees.

“This merger allows us to combine such well-known brands as SINCO netting solutions, the Exofit Harness, the Delta II harness, the UCL Advanced Series Five Piece Hoist System and the Cantilever Rescue System Kit into one operating business to create a company that is strategically aligned to meet all the fall protection equipment needs of distributors and end-users,” notes Velasco, explaining that the acquisition is part of an aggressive growth strategy for the company. “We're strengthening our position as the global leader in our category by offering a stronger, broader product offering, backed by the combined strengths and commitment to continued innovation in product development, training and marketing.”

Unique Concepts Ltd Safety Systems began as Uni-Jet Industrial Pipe Services. Uni-Jet designed a new hoist system and when local Workplace Health & Safety approval and a patent were granted, Unique Concepts Ltd. was incorporated. The company recognized the importance of innovative products and custom design capability and rose to the top with its expert team of design, manufacturing, quality control and administrative personnel. On August 1, 1999, Unique Concepts Ltd. was purchased by QCM Inc., and moved to a new 28,000-square-foot facility where it functioned as an international leader in confined space rescue systems and fall protection equipment.

DBI-SALA & PROTECTA is a division of Capital Safety, a large designer and manufacturer of height safety and fall protection equipment with 15 operating sites worldwide.
