May 3, 2017 - CraneWorks is one of the first U.S. companies to take delivery of the Demag AC 220-5 all-terrain crane. The crane, which features a 245-ton capacity, is in production and will soon ship from Germany. It will be available for purchase from CraneWork's headquarters in Houston, Texas.
“With this acquisition, CraneWorks now has 370 machines in North America including 46 cranes from Terex and Demag,” said Keith Ayers, CEO of CraneWorks Inc. “This 245-ton AC 220-5 for our sales fleet joins the 120-ton Demag AC-100 we recently added to our rental fleet.”
First unveiled by Demag in 2016, the five-axle AC 220-5 features a single-engine design start-stop functionality and intelligent motor management system. It has a 256-ft. main boom that can be extended to a full 325 ft. with jib extensions.
The AC 220-5 is maneuverable with all-axle steering, independent rear-axle steering, and a dynamic launch control feature that helps the operator position the crane in confined spaces. To navigate through confined areas, the small frame is less than 10 ft. wide and 48 ft. long.
The crane is also equipped with Demag’s IC-1 Plus control system, which calculates lifting capacities in real time for every position of the boom, subject to the slewing angle of the superstructure. This enables the maximum lifting capacity to be used in more situations, particularly when lifting over the outriggers.
