Crane Hot Line

Crane Accident: Westmont, Ill.

August 2012—A telescopic-boom truck crane tipped over while placing a signal bridge over three rail lines that carry commuter trains in metropolitan Chicago. No one was injured, but the crane’s boom and the signal bridge both fell across the tracks, halting train traffic for five hours and causing delays that lasted for hours more. The tipover also reportedly damaged utility lines. Workers separated the crane from the truck and used front-loaders to carry it away from the tracks. – www.chicagotribune.com
