Crane Accident: New York, N.Y.

April 2012—One construction worker was killed and another suffered an injured leg when a crawler crane’s 170-foot lattice boom fell at a subway construction site on the west side of Manhattan. One worker reported seeing a cable on the snap and the boom then break. Engineers investigating the accident have found defects in the crane’s hoisting system, and an official has said poor maintenance and or improper handling of the crane may have contributed to the accident. - www.nycinfo.org
