Crane Accident: Mt. Vernon, Va.
February 2012—Two workers in a hanging work platform suffered minor injuries but were taken to a hospital when the boom truck that was supporting them tipped over. The two workers were being lifted to inspect a cell tower in a church steeple, when one of the boom truck’s outriggers failed, causing the truck to tip up onto its side. As the truck tilted, the suspended work platform crashed into the steeple and onto the church roof. Investigators credit the boom truck operator for minimizing the workers’ injuries by lowering the platform as near to the roof as possible before the boom truck tipped. - www.nbcwashington.com
