Crane Accident: Montreal, Quebec
January 2013—Unexpectedly high wind gusts estimated at 43 mph or more crashed the boom of a 600-ton crane into the windows of a 27-story high-rise building. The impact broke four large windows and rained shards of glass onto the street beneath, causing public safety officials to close down nearby streets. The crane had been parked and was sitting idle during the weekend when the accident happened. After the incident, the crane’s owner retracted and lowered the boom. No one was hurt, and nearby streets were reopened after the boom had been lowered. – www.montrealgazette.com
