Crane Accident: Manatee, Fla.

A 52-year-old crane operator was in good condition with a broken leg after his machine fell and landed on its side at an old phosphate plant. The man, operating the crane along a road on top of a berm, felt the crane start to slide on sandy soil. He was trapped inside the cab of the crane about an hour and a half before being rescued and flown by helicopter to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
