Crane Accident: Killeen, Texas
June 2012—While traveling on a public road, a lattice-boom truck crane lost its brakes, veered off the road, and overturned in a ditch, trapping the driver under the truck’s cab. Rescuers needed more than an hour to inch the vehicle upward enough to free him. The driver was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition with a broken pelvis. He is expected to recover. Witnesses credited the driver with steering the runaway truck crane so that it didn’t hit any other vehicles as it cut through a parking lot and crossed a four-lane road before hitting a guard rail and overturning into a ditch. Heavy equipment was called in to upright and remove the truck crane. – www.kwtx.com
