Crane Accident: Cedar Hills, Utah
July 2013—Electricity for the north end of Utah County went out for about 20 minutes after the boom of a truck crane came too close to a 130,000-volt power line. It’s unclear whether the boom actually touched the line or just came close enough for the electricity to arc. The electricity flowed down through the crane and blew out one of its tires. The crane operator was not hurt, but a worker standing near the truck was injured by shrapnel from the exploding tire. A fire department official said the two were lucky they were not electrocuted. – www.ksl.com
