Crane Accident: Bronx, N.Y.

December 2012—A workman was crushed to death when a 40-foot-long industrial air conditioner slid off a flatbed trailer that was being lifted by a crane and fell on top of him. The worker was signaling for the crane operator when the accident happened. The crew planned to hitch the flatbed to a truck cab but apparently failed to secure the cooling unit, according to a Buildings Department spokesman. Both the Buildings Department and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident. – www.nydailynews.com
