November 2, 2005 — A large commercial masonry contractor located in Massillon, Ohio, GMR Builders has been a Manitou customer since 2000, currently owning two of its machines. First is the MRT 1850. According to Michael Rohr, president of GMR, in the last five years the company has used the machine daily on jobs lifting precast stone and placing brick and mortar for its crews.

“One of the advantages of the MRT is its ability to set up once and then rotate around to pick and place materials,” Rohr said. “It's a real time saver when compared to our regular telescopic forklifts, and it has cut our crane rental costs as well.”

Another benefit of the MRT is its maneuverability and space-saving design. “Having the forks is good but being able to take them off and put the winch or the jib on or any of the other attachments, if we needed them, was probably the biggest factor in our decision to purchase the MRT 1850,” Rohr said.

GMR's newest Manitou is the smallest of the product line, the SLT 415B or Twisco.

“We've just received it and already my guys are liking it,” Rohr said. “It's a great little machine. Its compact size and the way it's designed make it really maneuverable. We will be using the Twisco for material handling inside of buildings to begin with, but I can see that the Twisco is capable of going outside and taking care of business as well. The jobsites are getting smaller all the time; the Twisco gives us an advantage. It's just as capable as any of the larger forklifts.”
