February 2, 2006 — Coast Crane, Seattle, Wash., completed the acquisition of SI Equipment Services in January. With the acquisition, Coast Crane now operates 14 locations from as far north as Anchorage, Alaska to the southern tip of California in San Diego.
Immediate plans call for consolidating SI Equipment's Concord facility into Coast Crane's existing West Sacramento and San Leandro, Calif., operations. The Orange facility will remain open and will operate under the Coast Crane name.
According to Larry Zaback, Chief Operating Officer for Coast Crane, the acquisition is a good fit with Coast Crane's strategic plan to expand its business into additional locations along the west coast.
“The beauty of the deal is that SI was a dealer for the same products Coast Crane currently represents in other markets,” said Zaback.
These include Manitowoc Potain self-erecting cranes, Comansa tower cranes and JLG aerial work platforms and telescopic handlers.
According to Zaback, the Coast Crane's growth through acquisition is driven more by opportunity than by design. The company, however, does have plans for opening at least one new Greenfield location per year. Current priorities call for entry into California, Nevada, Alaska, and Oregon.
“We are the Manitowoc dealer for the western United States and we have identified these markets as opportunities to expand and implement our product support driven business plan,” said Zaback.
