Cianbro Wins Contract for Texas Refinery Project

October 22, 2007 • Cianbro Constructors, Brewer, Maine, has been awarded a module assembly contract for the Motiva Enterprises LLC refinery expansion project in Port Arthur, Texas. Cianbro's contract calls for the construction of approximately 50 large modules weighing in excess of 500 tons.

“We are thrilled to announce this contract,” said Peter Vigue, Cianbro president and CEO. “To align ourselves with a client of this caliber on a project of this importance provides a tremendous opportunity for Maine people to export their knowledge and skill.”

Vigue confirmed that this contracted work for Cianbro will create 500 local jobs at its eastern manufacturing facility in Brewer, and will contribute significantly to Maine's economy. This contract will be Cianbro's first major job at its new Brewer facility.

“Cianbro's commitment to the local workforce makes them a perfect fit for our project team,” said Mick Heim, project manager for Motiva. “This contract is significant on many levels. It is just as important to our expansion project in Texas as it is to Cianbro's team in Maine. It is also just as important to strengthening our nation's energy supply as it is to creating jobs here in Maine.”

Heim added that the Motiva project team representatives' visit this week includes meeting one-on-one with people from across the ranks at Cianbro, the City of Brewer, and other key project stakeholders.

Motiva's entire project will create a 325,000 barrel-per-day capacity expansion at its Port Arthur refinery, increasing its crude oil throughput capacity to 600,000 barrels per day to make it the largest refinery in the United States and among the top 10 in the world.

The project is equivalent to building the first new refinery in the U.S. in more than 30 years. The new production capacity is expected to be online in 2010. Motiva's expansion also will lower most types of emissions from refinery operations on a per-barrel basis by utilizing advanced technology in all new system installations and replacing existing systems.

Motiva has contracted with a joint venture of Bechtel Corporation and Jacobs Engineering Group to manage engineering, procurement and construction for the entire Port Arthur refinery expansion project.
