CAT Goes Compact
January 17, 2005 • Caterpillar, Peoria, Ill., introduced two new models to its ever-expanding telehandler product line at the World of Concrete. The TH series, now 10 models strong, includes the TH210 and TH215 compact telehandlers, which were originally set to be introduced two years ago.
These compact models were purchased from German agricultural equipment producer Claus, and they will not only be aimed at the already developed European compact market but also the niche market emerging in North America.
The TH215, shown in the image, offers 5,500 pounds of maximum lift capacity and 18 feet of maximum lift height. The TH210 delivers 4,850 pounds and 17 feet, respectively. They both share the same chassis and are 5'11” inches wide and less than 7 feet tall. Both units are powered by the CAT 354B-RT diesel engine, which produces 84 hp.
The Caterpillar TH215 is one of two new models added to the TH Series of telehandlers.
As shown in the image, this particular unit is equipped with an enclosed cab and a grappling bucket. Initially, Caterpillar intends to target these machines to agricultural users but expect to see an open canopy cab offered later this year. Pricing has yet to be announced with deliveries set to begin in February or March.
