AmQuip Expands Tower Crane Division

December 1, 2004 • AmQuip Corp., Bensalem, Pa., recently reported continued growth in its tower crane business by adding 20 more cranes to its fleet. A large number of these cranes were acquired when the company purchased the assets of Telford, Pa.-based East Coast Hoist's tower crane division. Additionally, AmQuip bought four Peiner cranes to add to the fleet during this same acquisition period.

“East Coast is still a very large player in the personnel and material hoist areas,” said Frank Bardonaro, general manager of AmQuip Corp. “The sale of the tower crane division allows them to focus more on their primary business, which is the hoist division.” Bardonaro said AmQuip Corp. and East Coast Hoist have formed a strong working relationship that enables the companies to work together to provide customers with a complete package of mobile cranes, tower cranes, and any other form of lifting equipment needed to complete a job on-time and on-budget. He also said the acquisition is a strategic move to increase AmQuip's market position, and it provides customers with the ability to rent all their lifting equipment needs from one source.

After entering the tower crane market in 2002, AmQuip now has more than 30 tower cranes, consisting of Potain and Peiner cranes, which are available for service in the eastern half of the United States. Currently, AmQuip tower cranes are working in Florida, Mississippi, Wisconsin, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. Bardonaro said AmQuip is continuing to look at other opportunities to expand further into the tower crane market.
