August 17, 2005 — In December 2002, Angus Davis, Inc. (ADI) had three scissor lifts stolen from its yard in Orrstown, Pa — two Snorkel SL19s and one Skyjack 7027. Considering that tens of thousands of scissor lifts are sold each year, finding the machines was a true long shot.

However, after more than two years,
ADI received a tip from Snorkel International, St. Joseph, Mo., in May 2005 and has since recovered one of the units.

Snorkel notified the company that someone had ordered a part through one of the big rental companies for one of

the missing SL19s for which it had serial numbers. ADI quickly contacted the Pennsylvania State Police to report the findings. Working with the Auburn police department, they tracked down the machine, confiscated it, and returned it to ADI this month. According to Jimmy Souders, sales manager at ADI, the unit was in operation at an undisclosed business when the Auburn police found it. The alleged culprit, who is now going through the New York court system, said he had found the scissor lift along an interstate in the New York area.

Characterizing the recovery as “plus one for the good guys, minus one for the bad,” Souders said ADI would like to extend its gratitude to the Pennsylvania State Police and Auburn police departments for their quick response and a special thanks to Snorkel service manager John McKivbben for his assistance and diligence.
