Crane Accident: New York, NY

February 2012 - A crane cable snapped at the World Trade Center work site, dropping thousands of pounds of steel 40 stories. The load landed on and crushed a flatbed truck, nearly hitting the crane operator. Witnesses in a building nearly reported there was a loud noise, and the building shook. The impact sent up a cloud of dust, causing chaos on the site.

After the accident, the work site was shut down as investigators from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the city Department of Buildings launched a probe.—nydailynews
